Happy Krampusnacht!
Tonight dearies, the evening of December 5th, is Krampus Night! Also called Krampusnacht, tonight is the night when the evil anti-Santa appears on the streets! While Saint Nicholas brings gifts for good girls and boys, Krampus does quite the opposite, swatting "wicked" children with his switch, stuffing them in a big sack, and taking them away...
According to folklore, these unfortunate misbehaving children might become a snack, get turned into yuletide treats, be drowned in the river, or even dropped off in hell!
Perchten festivals are a very popular tradition in some areas of Europe. Taking place during the holiday season, people dress in their scariest yuletide Krampus garb. Some towns and cities even discourage travelors from visiting during the events, as the costumes can be quite frightening!
Photographing this incredible Perchten costume and mask Arend created was amazing! Huge snowflakes fell in a whirlwind while we tromped around in the snow with the hulking Yuletide beast.
We definitely alarmed a few neighbors!
Images from my Krampus shoot with Ravendark Creations have been published in Infected By Art Vol. 7!
What holiday monster photoshoot is complete without a BURNING CHRISTMAS TREE???
And a little behind the scenes! Here Lara is helping Arend into his monster hands…
